Storytime with Santa
Friday December 11th - 7:00 pm
Friday December 18th - 7:00 pm
Each night kids will gather in the floor and Santa will read them a story. After the story they can sit on his lap and parents can take pictures and Santa will give them a gift. This will be a lot of fun for the kids and parents and is a great way to avoid the lines at the mall.
“Why Santa” you may ask. I understand how materialistic Christmas has become and it bothers me that kids are more concerned about what Santa is going to bring them than what Christ gave to them and what they can give to others. I also realize that some families do not bring Santa into their Christmas at all. By bringing Santa into Lighthouse this Christmas season and having story time with Santa it is not our intent to offend.
The reality is that Santa has become a huge part of the Christmas tradition for most families and he isn’t going away anytime soon. So, it is my desire that this Christmas we can use the love for Santa that these kids have to tell them the true story of Christmas and to remind them that Santa gives them gifts because of the gift God gave him on the first Christmas day. The story of St. Nicholas is really the story of one man’s reaction to God’s love. It is because of the love God showed him that he desires to give gifts to others. And ultimately that is the reaction we all should have to the story of Christmas. So in the spirit of Paul who said in 1 Corinthians 9:22 “I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some.” if I need to put on a Santa suit to tell kids the true meaning of Christmas then that is what I will do. After all, if Santa is reading the story, there won't be a child in the room who won't be listening.
Please also realize that we are not in any way trying to persuade you to allow Santa to be part of your tradition. If your family has chosen to not have Santa in your Christmas, that is wonderful. But please also realize that so many families do incorporate Santa into their Christmas and this is our small attempt to take that tradition and deepen it’s meaning and ultimately use it to unveil the true meaning of Christmas.
Thank you and Merry Christmas,
