Vacation Bible School 2012
Come join us on an expedition through the book of Proverbs. We will learn to listen to instruction,
dig deeper in our Bible study, avoid foolish behavior, and discover the secrets to having the best life
possible here on earth. Finally, we locate the treasure--wisdom--and learn how to get it. "For the Lord
gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6). This series will
have your students searching their Bibles to find help with their everyday lives.

Lesson Aims--

LESSON 1:
Setting Sail (Listening to Instruction)
Proverbs 1:2-3,7-9; 4:1,13; 8:10,33; 9:9; 10:17

Aim: To learn the benefits and importance of listening to God's
teaching and receiving instruction from those in authority.
Additional Bible Story: Walls of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-20)(The Israelites had to follow God's instructions to conquer Jericho.)

LESSON 2:
Searching for Clues (Discovering Truth)
Proverbs 1:17; 10:26; 11:22; 13:7; 15:19; 17:3,12,14

Aim: To teach the students how to study the Bible and dig deeper to find important truths.
Additional Bible Story: Rich farmer (Luke 12:16-21)
and Poor widow (Mark 12:41-44)
(One of the "riddle" verses we have to dig deeper to understand is Proverbs 13:7.
The stories of the rich farmer and poor widow illustrate this.)

LESSON 3:
Charting the Course (Avoiding Foolish Behavior)
Prov. 10:18,23; 12:15; 14:16; 15:2; 18:6; 20:3; 29:11

Aim: To learn how to identify some of the traits of foolish behavior and avoid their pitfalls.
Additional Bible Story: Wise and foolish builders
(Matthew 7:24-27)
(There are eight pirates in this lesson who depict foolish traits mentioned in Proverbs. The story of
the wise and foolish builders reinforces this lesson.)

LESSON 4:
The Good Life Oasis (Living God's Way)
Proverbs 3:5,27-32; 6:6; 12:19-26; 17:17; 18:24; 21:23

Aim: To learn some of the positive traits that will help students live in a way that is pleasing to God and have the best life possible here on earth.
Additional Bible Story: Jesus the loving Shepherd
(John 10:7-15)
(The story of Jesus the loving Shepherd shows us that Christ came that we may have an abundant life.)

LESSON 5:
"W" Marks the Spot (Gaining Wisdom)
Proverbs 4:5-8; 8:1-5; 9:10; 16:16; 24:3-4; 24:13-14

Aim: To learn what wisdom is, how to get it, and why it is such a precious treasure.

Additional Bible Story: Solomon's wisdom
(1 Kings 3:5-14)
(Solomon's life story emphasizes the concept that wisdom comes from God.)
